Choosing the right FSA depends on your personal and family circumstances:
Consider a Health Care FSA if:
- You or your family members have regular medical, dental, or vision expenses
- You anticipate healthcare costs like planned procedures, ongoing prescriptions, or medical supplies
- You want to save on taxes for everyday healthcare expenses like copays and deductibles
Consider a Dependent Care FSA if:
- You have children under age 13 who attend daycare, before/after school care, or summer day camps
- You care for a disabled spouse or dependent adult who needs supervision while you work
- You expect consistent dependent care expenses throughout the year
Many participants choose to enroll in both types of FSAs if they have both healthcare and dependent care expenses. Review your prior year's expenses and anticipated needs for the upcoming year to determine which account(s) would be most beneficial for your situation.
